Who approved this!

This logo just doesn't make sense and in my opinion doesn't add to the the quality of the brand.

i think its going to make more damage than good... and why the gradients? lord tell me why the gradients?

The Mastercard press release: http://www.mastercardinternational.com/cgi-bin/newsroom.cgi?id=1282&

MasterCard Worldwide is *corporate* brand identity, not to be confused with the product "MasterCard"

"In addition to the MasterCard brand, which appears on MasterCard credit, debit and prepaid cards, other brands include Maestro®, the global PIN-debit brand, Cirrus®, the ATM brand, and MasterCard Advisors. These brands will not change, and MasterCard Worldwide will continue to support them as part of its strong brand family."

I'd started composing a withering blog post about this myself, until I noticed the press release. The logo isn't intended for consumers. Still don't think much of it though.
