I dislike the logo. It has elements that make it fairly interesting and connect it to the “menacing” logo which I like, but I dislike the overall lack of form. It’s hard to deny it’s likeness to a mutant slug. I am with the supporters of Jon Slabyks’ website:

I think the best move for the Sabres is to go with Mr. Slabyk. Going to this logo was about as dumb as the Islanders reverting from their great looking Gordon’s Fisherman back to the plain old island logo that stands out from hmm… pretty much nothing.

Fans Despise New Buffalo Sabres Logo Concept

Chatrooms have been seething with negative feedback after a new logo design proposal for the Buffalo Sabres (NHL) was leaked to the public. Outraged fans have been signing a petition to redesign the logo on FixTheLogo.com, which has now collected more than 10,000 signatures. The petition in part states:

“[The logo] is a poorly conceived atrocity that does not reflect the history, tradition, or class of the Buffalo Sabres team or its fans. The logo resembles neither a buffalo nor a sabre. It has been compared to numerous unflattering things, from a hairpiece to a slug. This logo is an embarrassment to the Buffalo Sabres as well as the fans that support them.”

The new design, seen above, would be the third logo the Sabres will have had since the team was organized in 1971. The original logo included both a sabre and a buffalo:

In 1997, the logo was redesigned to include a menacing illustration of a buffalo head, but variations of the logo include a sabre as well.

Some fans who are upset about the new design are also saying the design wasn’t accidentally leaked to the public, but that it was purposefully released to gauge public reaction.

That has got to be the worst design that I have ever seen. It doesnt even look like a buffalo. I am a diehard sabres fan and am disgusted with who ever came up with that design. There isn’t even any sabre in the logo. What a disgrace!

I’m a Tampa Bay Lightning Fan from Tampa… I just moved to NY and well… the new logo design… sucks… I would not choose the new logo for the Buffalo Sabres team. They should have put choices out there and the public could vote. If thats the design, I’m sorry Sabres fans…

They should keep the logo from last season. I think it’s the best one so far, and if not dont replace with that crap. That thing just looks plain stupid. It looks like it was designed by a blind guy. It looks like somebody smeered a turd on a peice of paper. It’s not fit for the players to skate on. If they have to replace the logo from last season please at least replace it with something cool.

It’s not bad, I’d like to see the final version though when they introduce it before making final comments. The concept shows a lot of movement and energy but is probably to progressive and modern to appeal to fans in an old school city like buffalo. The negative feedback is interesting though, I wonder how many fans actually see the logo and dislike it, and how many just dislike it because the hear other people making negative remarks about it.

How have season tickets sales been going since this new logo has been leaked? Now for the real mind boggle, how much was paid to Reebok for this new design? I’m not a Sabre’s fan(duh) but, in the interest of NHL and hockey. This new logo, doesn’t cut it. Are the Sabre’s competing with the Columbus Blue Jacket’s(the worst name/logo design, concept in the NHL) and the Atanta Thrashers(close second, but not as stupid and repulsive). Any one of this guy Slabek designs are infinitely better than reebok buffaslug. Now it gets interesting, which way does the sabres go now?

The new logo is terrible. I heard the creator of the new Sabres logo is now on the witness protection program.

I WILL NOT purchase any merchandise with the new design. I will continue to support my Sabres by wearing my throwbacks.

I truly hope the design changes after the season.

The marketing team for the Sabres obviously ate large amounts of peyote before agreeing on this yellow creature to represent Buffalo. I can handle the color scheme being a little different than the original. I took it in stride when I saw that the front office got rid of arguably the 3rd best defenseman in the league(McKee). But this is just as said before; ridiculous, disgraceful, retarded, untraditionally insulting…what have you. The best way to show those idiots what’s up is to not buy anything with that horned yellow sperm on it. I still support the team die hard. Go Sabres! Down with the Slugs.

ok u know its bad when the U.B. Bulls have a better logo than a professional hockey team. As said before this logo is ridiculous and it doesnt even look like a buffalo. i dont mind the new jersey colors but u can never beat the old blue and gold. it had to be good they used it for nearly 30 years! it was only ten years ago that they changed to the red and black which i still havent gotten used to. God we look so good against the flyers. And I’m not just talking about the 6-0 score as I watch this game, those jerseys are great. ok u know its bad when the U.B. Bulls have a better logo than a professional hockey team. As said before this logo is ridiculous and it doesnt even look like a buffalo. i dont mind the new jersey colors but u can never beat the old blue and gold. it had to be good they used it for nearly 30 years! it was only ten years ago that they changed to the red and black which i still havent gotten used to. I would never buy anything with the new logo on it but if it is blue and gold i will but never with the logo. whoever made this logo didnt even think about it probably took his/hers kids doodle and said hey this looks neat, lets use it has a new horrible logo so we can sell a whole bunch of crap and nobody really cares because they will buy it anyways. im sure that what they said because no one in thier right mind would really think this is a good idea. oh and the ice in the arena is a joke, you think that it looks bad on the jerseys it looks horrible on the ice. someone better do some thinking and better get some ideas from the people before thay make a new logo. they were saying that they leaked the logo on purpose to get the public’s opinion but they mustn’t have listen to any of it because IT SUCKS!!!! ok i think i am done… SALT THE SALT AND BRING BACK THE BLUE AND GOLD!!!!!!! The marketing team for the Sabres obviously ate large amounts of peyote before agreeing on this yellow creature to represent Buffalo. I can handle the color scheme being a little different than the original. I took it in stride when I saw that the front office got rid of arguably the 3rd best defenseman in the league(McKee). But this is just as said before; ridiculous, disgraceful, retarded, untraditionally insulting…what have you. The best way to show those idiots what’s up is to not buy anything with that horned yellow sperm on it. I still support the team die hard. Go Sabres! Down with the Slugs.

Jon Slabyks’ idea of a new uniform is great (http://www.celsiusdesign.net/sabres/logos.html,
it has the classic Buffalo colors but the logo is up
to date.

How have season tickets sales been going since this new logo has been leaked? Now for the real mind boggle, how much was paid to Reebok for this new design? I’m not a Sabre’s fan(duh) but, in the interest of NHL and hockey. This new logo, doesn’t cut it. Are the Sabre’s competing with the Columbus Blue Jacket’s(the worst name/logo design, concept in the NHL) and the Atanta Thrashers(close second, but not as stupid and repulsive). Any one of this guy Slabek designs are infinitely better than reebok buffaslug. Now it gets interesting, which way does the sabres go now?

It’s not bad, I’d like to see the final version though when they introduce it before making final comments. The concept shows a lot of movement and energy but is probably to progressive and modern to appeal to fans in an old school city like buffalo. The negative feedback is interesting though, I wonder how many fans actually see the logo and dislike it, and how many just dislike it because the hear other people making negative remarks about it.

They should keep the logo from last season. I think it’s the best one so far, and if not dont replace with that crap. That thing just looks plain stupid. It looks like it was designed by a blind guy.
