Top 10 NFL Logo Designs

Forget winning streaks, MVPs and playoff hopes. When it comes to the NFL, all we at logodesign.com care about is which team has the best logo. And to find out, we polled 25 expert designers, who ranked each of the NFL’s team logos best to worst. The designers said the Denver Broncos have the best logo design, followed by the New England Patriots and Houston Texans. You can see the rest of the Top 10 List here.

And if you noticed your favorite team didn’t make the Designer’s Choice list, we set up a separate poll for our readers. If you want to see your team on the top of that list, you can vote now by clicking here.

On an interesting side note, five of our designer’s top 10 choices are also in ESPN’s top ten NFL teams this week. Coincidence? I don’ t think so.

Copycat logo? Courts say no

Think these logos look an awfully lot alike? Both use green, both are circular, both use the words “Star” and “Coffee”, both have stars and both have mythical-style illustrations in the center. And of course, both are logos for stores that sell coffee. Starbucks thought so too, which is why they filed a lawsuit claiming Starpreya Coffee is riding their corporate coattails.

But the Intellectual Property Tribunal in South Korea, where Starpreya is based, ruled today the logos are different enough that no confusion would occur. The judge stated, in part, that “the words ‘Preya’ and ‘Bucks’ do not have any special meanings. Both of the trade names are made of two words and are very unlikely to be called in separate forms such as `Star’ or `Preya’ and `Star’ or `Bucks’.”

Just goes to show you that in order for copyright infringement to occur, the logo must be almost pixel for pixel the same.

Interestingly, Starbucks opened its first store in Seoul in 1999, and Starpreya registered their logo in 2003, according to The Korea Herald.

Here’s a complete history of the Starbucks logo.

Your Logo on M&Ms!

Recently, I wrote about a company that will put your logo on postage stamps. And this morning I came accross another interesting concept in the October issue of Inc Magazine that says Mars, Inc, maker of M&Ms, will now print your company logo on the much-loved “melt in your mouth, not in your hand” candies.

The website is pretty slick and it’s easy to follow. You get to choose up to three M&M colors (there are 17 printable colors to choose from) and then you can upload your logo and see what it would look like on the M&Ms. You can also get custom-printed messages (think candy hearts, but customized and more delicious).

The idea is great, but it is expensive. For one box of M&Ms with your company logo printed on them it costs $65, plus $15 shipping and a one-time $100 logo setup fee. And unfortunately you can’t get your logo on peanut, peanut butter, crispy, almond or dark chocolate flavored M&Ms; at least not yet.
