Power, authority, military, courage, and boldness are the visual messages conveyed by this logo, which are the same underlying messages of his platform. By using a deeper, darker blue as the background for his logo, McCain brings a bolder, more serious front to his image. The military star, yellow spikes, and red and white stripes bring a sense of military and duty to the logo to the design. The sans-serif type also conveys boldness as well as brings a more modern look to the design. Only two other candidates of the 17 in this study use a sans-serif font. Finally, the simplicity of the single word "McCain" further brings emphasis and authority to the design, reflecting the no-nonsense, straight-forwardness of his campaign.
