Logo Design Podcast 14: White Space

Logo White Space DesignWhite space, an easy way to take good art, and screw it up. White space is something that all designers should think about more often, but seldom take the time to do so. In logo design podcast 14, Paul shows you how to take your artwork, and test for the correct amount of white space. This gentle relationship between the positive and negative elements in design, is key to overall balance, proportion, and design hygiene. White space plays a very important role in design symmetry, and symmetry is what keeps the eye’s attention from straying.

Dear Feedback… At Logo Design… Dot Com, Feedback… At Logo Design… Dot Com,

I love the podcast, I’ve listened to every single one of them, and I am sorry that I have never written in to say how much I love the show. The fact that you use iTunes to show the rotating album art it the best, you give it the feeling of video with out the download size. Please keep up the great work, and if you ever run out of things to talk about on the show, then do more logo redesigns of hideous & common looking logo designs or start a podcast on all forms of design (because, it kinda sucks you only talk about logo design, since i get to design or redesign a logo about as much as when windows comes out with a solid OS, its not bloody likely).

    Thanks

P.S. you probably don’t want to read this on the show, as it is long, and if Microsoft finds out im talking ish about them, they’ll send me a computer virus over the internets… oh knows… they’ve done it already!

Why are you more focused on white space than the meaning of the logo? Logos are designed to communicate an idea.

This Podcast looks like it is geared towards Art rather than Design.

  3. paul Says:

Well, Skot, this particular podcast was focussed on white space because each podcast deals with a specific aspect of logo design. There’s a lot of different skills to learn with good design.

And the meaning, or idea of the logo comes across when it’s designed well.
