Logo Design Podcast 16: How to Remake and Refresh an Existing Logo

In this weeks episode, Paul takes two logos that were submitted for review, and gives them a much needed makeover. Many times a client will insist on maintaining most, if not ALL elements of their current logo in a redesign. Most of the time, these elements were very hastily glued together using MSPaint or Photoshop, and are a giant stumbling block for clients and designers alike.

Paul B. Logo Design

Paul shows a very easy way to satisfy the customer in maintaining multiple aspects in a logo, if absolutely necessary. Good design starts with simplicity, but in cases where that is not possible…here ya go!

Horrible and amateurish. I cant imagine the comment that hundreds or even thousands of designers listen to this podcast. For $400 you can have a student at a university design a much more professional and beautiful mark. This is design on the level of microsoft word clip art.

Are you saying the logo I came up with was horrible and amateurish, or the one I started out with? I’m a little confused by your comment.

Love getting the feedback, though. I realize you can’t please everyone.

It used to be that you had to submit a website when commenting, so at least I can check out your stuff. I guess that’s not the case anymore. I’m curious what you would do with the logo (given the boundaries of including a dove, a circle, and a cross). Care to try it?

  3. paul Says:

    Didn’t think so.

  4. Jessi Says:

I really like your podcasts, what is the url to subscribe on iTunes? The one that comes up when you search for you is wrong. Thanks!

  5. Aight Says:

I’d just like to say that your podcasts are really helpful. It’s great to hear some design advice from someone who really knows what they’re talking about. Really insightful! The whitespace podcast has probably helped me the most so far.

    Thanks a lot!

  6. Paul Says:

Don’t search for me. Search for “logo design” in iTunes.

Sorry for the delay, btw. I’m having a hard time coming up with a topic. Any suggestions?

  7. Lisa M. Says:

Ok how about this for a topic:
Do you ever feel like you are a complete hack and you should hang up the mouse for good? If so, how do you personally get your mojo going again?
(Not that I have experienced this myself..lol)
