This is a good start. The typography (name etc.) looks pretty solid. There could be some tightening up though. The name “amy” feels just slightly large in relation to “anderson”. “Designer” may be a bit small. It’s hard to tell. I’m sure you’re ligning things up technically, but this requires adjusting things visually. Like I said, fairly solid - maybe just a little tweaking.

The icon needs a lot of work. Aside from the obvious color contrast issue, it just doesn’t feel like it was thought out enough. I love strictly typographic solutions, but this one isn’t as smart as it could be. Start in your sketchbook before you move to the computer. Thumbnailing is still the best way to begin. After you’ve done some sketching, review your sketches and find the best solutions, then go to the computer and work them out.

Could the lowercase “a” be reversed out of the uppercase “A” to create the negative space? Could 2 lowercase “a” be positioned back to back to form an iconic mark? An even bigger question is “do I need a mark or is the typographic treatment enough?” Just some things to consider. Good luck.

I agree with Brian. The icon needs to be thought out more, its not quite there.

The reason the text part doesnt look like it fits together is because you’ve got the ascenders and descenders competing. It might better to capitalize “amy ” and “designer” or at least the letters with ascenders/descenders (y, d, and g). Look at the text as a shape, and you’ll see how to fit it together better.

The icon…maybe the lowercase needs to be a script. Look at a lot of fonts that might work together, cause it doesnt have that “wow” factor that will get you the clients. This is a good start, though.

Typography only design rocks! I’m glad to see you playing with the typography design. That being said, it is also a very difficult form of design. As Brian pointed out, watch the details in the name. It’s the little things that can make good type bad.

The icon needs work. Take some time and think it out. Scetching is a great way to see numerous design ideas quickly. Remeber, type is very challenging to work with. Keep trying, learn from your mistakes and things will eventually start to fall into place.

Finally, watch your colors. If a green only logo is what you want to go with, pick two very distinct greens.

    Amy,

Nice job on the revision! I like the colors. The contrast works. The composition is a lot more interesting then before. The type has been tightened up. Nice job.

There are only a couple things that I would play with. First, I don’t like the way the serif re-enters the rectangle on the bottom right. I would drop that serif all together and square off the corner. This will give the composition more stability. Also, the way the inside serif on the left comes down and connects to the base looks a little akward to me. Try making the ‘A’ larger or the box a little smaller to see if you can get a smooth transition. I would play with that. It may be that it looks better this way. Just a thought.
