Without knowing a lot information behind the logo, my first thought was it was good. I think the icon is really successful how it incorporates the E and D for engineering dept. (I’m assuming). I’m not sure what the BUECE is and why the last three letters are bold. Also, the icon is huge compared to the letters.
My suggestion would be to play with the size of the icon so it fits a little better with the word. Also,if there is a good reason to have part of the word bold then leave it, if not, I would change the letters to be the same.

OK, I’m a little confused. It would help to know what the acronym is. Is it just “e” or is it an eo, ec, eo, etc. ? I can assume that the BUECE is short for Butkus University Engineering Something Something. But you’re filling out the information like a client fills out a creative brief. There’s so little to go off of, it’s hard to review a logo like this. It’s nice and simple, but too abstract.

I am not in love with it, I think doesnt stand out correctly the letter spacing (regarding typography) isn’t feeling too finished. I think you could have used a Serif to balance it, but the E just reminds me of the euro cent symbol. I dunno, also when I think engineering I think angles. One interesting thing about this mark though is that it looks very similar to an ON symbol to a computer. And if you rotated it a certain way, and made the E more prominent through color it could be a very nice mark.

This one confuses me. Maybe a little more information would have helped, such as what the acronym stands for. I assume Boston University Engineering Something Something. The symbol doesnt really communicate anything. Is it EC? EO? E-Circle? It really doesnt say engineering. I think this is a case of being TOO abstract and simple.

  5. Paul Says:

Sorry for the test, it’s just that I reviewed it twice, and it didnt update. Looks like it’s working now.

Too simple and abstract. It doesnt mean anything. It confuses me. Does it say anything more than just “e”?

Yes, it is like a euro cent symbol, or an ON computer symbol. What do these have to do with engineering? I realize Engineering is a broad field, but is there a way to make this a little more relevant?

  6. Lisa Calbric Says:

Gentlemen, I agree on how it looks like the ON button of a computer, but don’t you think probably the greatest piece of machinery ever ‘engineered’ is the computer? In that case, I would think it’s pretty relevant.

  7. Steve Says:

Steve, I looked up the department and it’s not the whole of engineering, it’s electrical and computer engineering. Given that, I’m pretty sure the other side of the symbol is a backward “C” for “computer.”

not sure about this one at all. Is trying to do something but achieving nothing. Can’t see how the icon relates to the type EC and BUECE. I think it’s too simple to work effectively. Maybe reduce the icon to something relevant and fit it alongside the type.

  10. Tyler Says:

The graphic I believe is an “E” and a “D”, which would stand for “Engineering Department”. Knowing that, the logo takes on more relevance. However since that meaning is difficult to decipher, I’d say it needs some rework.
