Hmmm. Probably not enough coverage. Reminds of what I don’t like about the Verizon logo - thin.

    Did the client like it?

The negative space under the roof is interesting.

Can’t imagine this reading too well on the side of a truck, though.

Thanks for the input!! That helps a lot to hear another perspective! Any other ideas?

  3. Panel Expert - Tony Naccarato Says:

This seems to be a good start. My problem with the logo is that it is very long and off balance. Also the style of the roof and the fonts don’t go together. The roof has that rough look to it but then you have the window and the fonts that have straight lines and curves. Somehow you need to make the styles work together and be more consistent.

With the name being so long, it might be worth trying to stack the ‘Duggins’ on top of the ‘Construction’. Then center the tagline under the the name and decrease the size of the font. Then you could put the house over the top. Click here to see a quick mock-up of what I was thinking.

I feel like there is absolutely no balance to this logo. The text is centered but the “symbol” is off to the left with a part hanging to the right.

You could try cropping the “roof” to just below the window frame and the centering that above the text.

I also don’t like the periods between “Design”, “Build”, and “Remodel”, it’s not only pointless, it’s also ugly. Try using a dash or some other separator between words. Or get rid of the words all together, the word “construction” in the actual logo should be enough to get the point across.

Okay- Thanks! The reason I did it in a brushstroke (the roof) is to show the artistic side and the structured letter to show the professional construction side. I see so many construction companies that you don’t know what type of construction they do (and that is what the tag line is for). I used a house roof to show it is residential primarily. However, I hate the simple house roof everyone does and tried to do it differently. Do you have any creative ideas for font types or logos that would work together better?

Thank you for the drawing that you did! That was perfect to show what you were talking about. I am afraid that if I standardize the roof that it will look like everyone elses with that dumb chimney attached to it. I have since changed the window style and colors to a more traditional blue and gray instead of green and blue. What are you thoughts? You guys have been so helpful! thanks!

Pretty good for a non-designer, Joe. I agree with the others…the balance is off. I don’t like the graphic going behind the text…it makes them compete. The bright green goes against the seriousness of Trajan. I know you wanted contrast, but the whole logo seems to fight against itself.

I would try a different approach. You don’t want “the simple house roof everyone does”, so why not show a different approach to a house? Find the coolest feature or design that the company has done, and use that as inspiration.

  7. Sandy Remmers Says:

I like Tony Naccarato’s idea, but make the word construction smaller to fit under Duggins. It’s not as important as “Duggins” and design, build, remodel tell what you do anyway. Have the roof line feather out like in original design, just not as long, but still off balance.
Paul’s suggestion is important, to find the coolest feature or design the company has done and make it unique or representational of your company. One more thought, I like the Gambrel roof line, like on old barns, possibly fit the name under that. Choose a font that makes a statement about your company, are you large, or small or still growing. Need to be sure it will fit the need for a long term.
